Hello Khalid Shaikh, Pozars book is a good start. There are multiple books written on the topic, that go into more detail and only focus on MS and coplanar designs. At these frequencies you have to take the surface roughness of your materials into account. Due to the skin effect the electromagnetic waves will hardly penetrate the conductor. I would also recommend that you try to simulate your MS line in a suited EM-simulator. The best suited simulator for this case should be SONNET, but I am sure you can also achieve acceptable results with AWR Microwave Office or Ansys HFSS. Please keep in mind, that not everything that can be simulated can also be manufactured. You should check the manufacturing parameters of your PCB supplier and orient your design according to these requirements. You should also think about how to measure your line once it has been produced. You probably need to create probe pads or use special RF connectors ( I think 1mm is required at these frequencies). • Other fully acceptable PDA methods to determine lamp energy at multiple wavelengths (across the usuable range 190-600 nm) are also available using more transparent solutions such as ACN which may provide more detailed and practical information (because lamp energy usually shows more noise in the low UV range as they age), but some vendors use a more simplified method. Dear researchers, I am very interested in making more progress in the direction of the functional analysis and number theory. After the second stage of my private research regarding the Riemann Zeta function and Xi-function, I have been able to validate one fascinating consequence of the Riemann Hypothesis, probably never seen before, and it is related to the set of the Taylor even coefficients a_2n and Jensen C_n (and the Turán moments b_m or b_n calculated by professors Csordas, Norfolk and Varga, almost 36 years ago). I have validated these b_m, and their impact in the definition of the famous coefficients of the Jensen polynomials with shift N=0 and Taylor coefficients a_2n which evidently (or undoubtedly) lets formulate a representation by a series for the well-known and important Euler-Mascheroni constant, and also the Lugo's. I do not have any contract with any institution (university) nor studying any master/PhD, but I considere that I could show an significant set of results that would open the door for future researchs not only in mathematics, but also in physics. As I live in Europe, electronics engineer graduate from UPB, several years ago (2007) and my passion for searching and validating models ( I am good at Matlab and other programms), I can work in a research project if I had such priceless opportunity. The reason for investigating in functional analysis and number theory when being an electronics engineer is because I like mathematics being applied to several fields, I believe in the possibility to determine new formulas that impact in exact science and engineering. Nowadays, I feel alone in my own research and I have tried to contact several magazines for showing these golden results and to be able to coming back to the college world, unfortunately, time and some circumstances during my years as engineer trying to pursuit some chance in research have affected my way to do what I would love to do the best: researching and completing my PhD. That is why I post this question about who could help me to come back to an institution and be able to build an interesting path of results and findings I know I can give.
For now, I have reached a tremendous data and fascinating equations that only could be exposed once finished my 10 or 13 pages of current article, as I am aware of the formal stages of a publication. I would like to contact not only magazines, but also prestigious universities whose groups or members could get inmersed in my ideas and results.

As a 2nd-year PhD researcher, I have been curious about the number of simulation-only PhD theses that exist in fields such as Engineering as well as unrelated fields as well. There is of course value in lab-testing, given how a simulation cannot always account for every boundary condition or factor. Usually, from my limited but growing experience, simulation, in the case of Additive Manufacturing and mechanical testing, is normally used as a validating tool; to help prove in a non-virtual environment what may be seen and tested in the lab, before any kind of scaling or future work is done using simulation (for cost-effectiveness and resource-saving etc.).
But in fields where in-situ testing is normally done, are there PhD theses that "Jump the gun" as it were, and go straight to simulation? Any information on this will be most appreciated given how, in some locations/countries where interaction and access to tools on campus and labs are minimal still due to Covid, improvisations must be made.

What can cause severe bending conditions on the wind power plant's tower(only the tower part)? I assume that as the wind hits the blades it create a bending moment which vary linearly from wing tip to wing base. This moment will be transferred from blade's base to the top of the tower ( we have then a model like a beam with one end fixed and a bending moment on top). And I think that this moment has larger condtribution to tower's bending than the force coming from the wind as it hits the structure. Correct If I am wrong.
The bendig moment at the root of the blades dissipate locally at the top of the tower. These are local moments that do not carry on the cylinder. The bending moment at the base of the tower come from the force component on the blades and the wind pressure on the tower.

As a corrosion engineer, it was so interesting for me to compare SCC (Stress Corrosion Cracking) and SSC (Sulfide Stress Cracking).
One of the most characteristic differences between these two cracking mechanism is their mechanism from electrochemical conceptual point of view, so that one of them follows cathodic cracking mechanism and the other follows anodic cracking mechanism. In SCC mechanism, there is always an anodic reaction in which the surface of the metal corrodes at a weak point and corroded point or area plays an anodic area compared to the other surface area, and combination of the corrosion and stress concentration in corroded area ends in a rapid cracking phenomenon. While in SSC damage mechanism, it is a cathodic cracking mechanism which initiates this cracking phenomenon. Would you exactly explain:
1- What would happen in SSC mechanism ?
And
2- What conditions need to be present in wet H2S containing acidic solutions with pH of less than 4 to experience SSC phenomenon ?
We studied the mechanisms of "Sulphide Stress Cracking," "Stress Corrosion Cracking," and "Hydrogen Induced Cracking" and compared the conditions of each in the paper "Important Factors on the Failure of Pipeline Steels with a Focus on Hydrogen Induced Cracks and Improvement of Their Resistance". I'm in a situation where I need to compare the accuracy of one stress-strain curve with respect to the other, with both curves having different x and y coordinates. If both curves have the same x-coordinates (independent variable) and varying y-coordinates (dependent variable), I could use the R squared value or the Weighted Least Squares (WLS) method.
I'm trying to avoid interpolation as there are many values and would be a very tedious task.

I am preparing to publish some of the works I had done in the previous years in some journals. But I don't know how much this will affect in my future application to professors for phd program. Besides, I am also curious to know about the role of a journal's Impact factor on a new researcher like me. Like if I manage to publish my work in a low impact factor journal, would it cause any negative impression on my professor whom am I mailing to?
Focus on contribution. Be patient. If you set some great objectives for yourself, repeated failures saddens you. Notice that you have a long way to be so competent and powerful to author a good paper. You need a great goal, a great idea, a great contribution, a great writing style, a great aesthetic subtlest, and a deep publication experiences. At the moment, you may think that your paper is a great sample of scientific research, but, after some years, you will grow and aquire knowledge, you will be more experienced, you will get an insightful expert, you will find it was not so outstanding. When I was an engineering student, while investigating a circuit schematic, I was often discouraged by a device whose symbol I was not familiar with. Thinking that it was a different device, I was usually giving up. In some of the cases, I was finding out (much later) that the device was actually just a regular device (e.g. an inductor or a Zener diode, etc.) with another symbol accepted/used by some other engineers.
When I started to teach electronics, I noticed that I should make convincing explanations for my students to relax them about such occasions. For example, I mention multiple symbols used for Zener diodes, along with the meaning/purpose of essential items of each symbol version. Unfortunately, sometimes I cannot convince some of the students about this many versions of symbols used for the same specific device.
This issue can be an important problem when you are publishing or reading papers in different scientific journals.
Now, I remembered another case -although not very similar-, namely the unit of electrical conductance, which is given with the unit "Siemens", as well as with 1/Ohm, represented by Ω-1 or by and even by "mho" (Leaving away the "inverted omega" symbol which I also regard as unusual, I have always thought that, Georg Ohm would not be happy about the "mho" unit).
Of course, some symbol versions (e.g. some of the ground symbols given in the figure) may represent a slightly or substantially different property/behavior. However, many people occasionally use those different symbols to represent the same specific device. With no doubt, that's another aspect of the "multiple symbols" issue.
For sure there are multiple standards that we cannot alter to fix a unique symbol for a specific device.
On the other hand, this "multiple symbols" issue often creates problems, especially for the students who are in a struggle to learn/understand new devices.
The "handy" versions of the symbols (like the last ground symbols in the figure) preferred by some instructors may complicate the issue further.
A symbol which reminds of the device's main behavior, points out to difference and similarity with another device, provides ease of drawing and ease of spotting the device on a schematic, etc., can be assumed a good symbol (This can explain, for instance, the different versions of Zener diode symbols).
I know that many of you may think that I am exaggerating the problem. Nevertheless, I would like to know what others think about this issue.
Any personal experiences or suggestions which may be helpful especially for teaching will also be appreciated.

In my first answer, I referred to the symbols in the upper row of the attached file. These replaced those in the lower row which were a former DIN attempt to make German symbols "unique" but those older ones had at least some resemblance to the more widespread symbols.

I have tried several mixes from literature with and without surface-treated PVA fibers. Tried about 15 different mixes with HMPC, oil-coated fibers, PE fibers, different sizes of sand (less than 200 microns), etc. However, microcracking/multi-crack and pseudo strain hardening behavior has not been observed. I would appreciate it if someone could advise or suggest any special mixing technique, mixing proportions, or testing methods to achieve the ECC.

In recent years, the field of combinatorial optimization has witnessed a true tsunami of so-called "novel" metaheuristic methods, most of them based on a metaphor of some natural or man-made process. The behavior of virtually any species of insects, the flow of water, musicians playing together -- it seems that no idea is too far-fetched to serve as an inspiration to launch yet another metaheuristic.

In the past two decades, many robust structural reliability methods have been presented that we may not even have heard their name. For a reliability researcher, it is very difficult to read all manuscripts, write their code and properly examine their efficiency/accuracy. On the other hand, it seems that some efficient/robust ones are being forgotten.
The purpose of this discussion is to create a space for the exchange of experience and expression of reliability researchers' views/opinions about the structural reliability methods. I hope this could help us to save time and learn more.
Suppose that you have a real-world structural reliability problem without any information about its limit state function, geometry of the performance function and the safety level of the problem (i.e. the performance function can be estimated by a finite element method-based software).

Mathematical programming is the best optimization tool with many years of strong theoretical background. Also, it is demonstrated that it can solve complex optimization problems on the scale of one million design variables, efficiently. Also, the methods are so reliable! Besides, there is mathematical proof for the existence of the solution and the globality of the optimum.
However, in some cases in which there are discontinuities in the objective function, there would be some problems due to non-differentiable problem. Some methods such as sub-gradients are proposed to solve such problems. However, I cannot find many papers in the state-of-the-art of engineering optimization of discontinuous optimization using mathematical programming. Engineers mostly use metaheuristics for such cases.
Can all problems with discontinuities be solved with mathematical programming? Is it easy to implement sub-gradients for large scale industrial problems? Do they work in non-convex problems?
A simple simple example of such a function is attached here.
It may be useful to make a distinction between 'global' optimisation (where one is given an explicit, non-convex objective function) and 'black-box' optimisation (where the function is not given explicitly). The methods for them are very different.

When I saw the invited speaker list I found my professor name in this list and I immediately contacted him he was stranged and knew nothing about this conference. So, as a student engineer in mechanical engineering specializing in numerical mechanics, I am engaged for simulating crash square tube on Abaqus with the explicit dynamics and Riks static. With the explicit dynamics everything is fine, but I lost with the Riks static, where I still haven't got a result and even I am not able to start the running.

If your intend nos is to do a nonlinear static analysis you mas use the implicit code, which can also do nonlinear dynamics and more accurately so than the explicit code in buckling analysis. The Riks method will work fine in nonlinear statics on the implicit cod if you introduce an appropriate imperfection. In your square tube case, I would advise using the *IMPERFECTION keyword to preload the first eigenvalue resulting from a previous bifurcation buckling analysis creating a file output that will be then read by the cited keyword. Scale the eigenvector with an appropriate factor ( say 0.005-in or a small fraction of the wall thickness). Start with a small increment.

When running AVL, the program outputs derivative values, however I have not been able to find documentation on whether the derivatives are dimensional, or dimensionless based on the *.AVL input file.
Hi, I used AVL in Flight mechanics lectures. It took me a long time to understand the dimensions of derivatives.
The derivations according to angular velocity are dimensionless, angular rates are defined: pb/2V, qc/2V, rb/2V
What's really strange? I used default units and this is the result:

I'm working with a data set that has species abundance for two ecosystem engineers along a transect. Samples consisted of counting individuals within quadrats at specified intervals along each transect.
I'm having trouble determining if there is a density of one engineer that is too high for the other to maintain their destiny or be present. I'm not sure what type of statistical approach I could/should take.
The goal is to figure out if the two engineers have any capacity to co-exist within the same environment.
There is a range of issues to think about here. The simplest approach is to plot the abundances of one engineer against the abundances of the other, at least in the first instance. Often people just correlate the values, though there are potential problems with that, and the question you pose is more subtle, suggesting a threshold value. You could try fitting something non-linear. Things to think about though: are you more interested in quadrats where one engineer is present and the other absent? You might try something non-parametric then. Do the actual densities matter? A common approach for these kind of data is to convert them to percentages, so the value for each quadrat is the percentage of the total occurences of an engineer that occur in that particular quadrat. This allows you to deal with the fact that one engineer may naturally occur in greater densities when it does occur (think barnacles vs limpets, for example). While the question is beguilingly simple, there's a lot you could try. See J. exp. mar. biol. 449 (2013) 261-273 for some thoughts and, potentially, a method.

I do not have the figures for researchers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), but for this discussion, I will assume that in a population of researchers, a fair fraction will be researchers in STEM.
The Philippines has a frustratingly small number of researchers (~188 researchers for every 1 million inhabitants). This is probably the reason it lags behind its neighbors in the STEM fields. This, I would suppose, has detrimental effects on the overall development of the country. Its neighbors, such as South Korea (~7500 researchers/million inhabitants), Singapore (~6700 researchers/million inhabitants), Japan (~5300 researchers/million inhabitants), Malaysia (~2400 researchers/million inhabitants), Thailand (~1200 researchers/million inhabitants), China (~1200 researchers/million inhabitants), and Vietnam (~700 researchers/million inhabitants), that have significantly larger densities of researchers have overtaken the Philippines in many aspects of development. Other countries, such as Laos (~16 researchers/million inhabitants), Cambodia (~30 researchers/million inhabitants), Myanmar (~29 researchers/million inhabitants) seem to also lag in many aspects of progress.
What might it take for countries such as ours to raise more researchers and scientists? Would you be able to provide suggestions on how we might do so despite the fact that the Philippines and other countries with small densities of researchers are low- to middle-income countries?

We will gain a more sacred or higher understanding of the humany body and our biological condition on this planet, also in terms of practical ethics and health. University graduates work in various companies and at first, find it difficult since what they learned is of very little or no help in the new job. The work is very specific and very little of it is covered in the university curriculum. should universities focus more on job-specific skills or continue with academic education? what are the consequences?

More over a breakdown of the longitudinal insulation of the series inductance implies the application of the test voltge at the 11kV side of the transformer (and associated measurement devices, if any) with a transfer of voltage to the LV side also.

The framework of economics today draws largely from post-War scholarship. And here, we remember the use of biomathematics by Paul Samuelson and contemporaries of the sixties and seventies. Now, that framework has been challenged and partly because of its finite dimensions. Hark back the 2007/8 crisis. Take ‘forward guidance’. It terrified the central banker. The models could not handle the realities of strongly nonlinear dynamical systems. Another crisis is here, Covid. Looking ahead, economics might have to draw more from the data-driven linearisation of engineering. And the Koopman world comes to mind. So we must ask, why can’t engineering and economics merge? And the question is more relevant in the most strongly nonlinear spaces of the lower income countries. Do you see the joy in dropping on a university hill of Africa and being welcomed by a department of engineering and economics? We just have to overcome a few institutional issues (norms and values). And the jolt of Covid should help us overcome the institutional challenges.
The wisdom of the early twentieth century established institutes of advanced studies for deep interdisciplinary work. The lower income countries don’t have those institutes. And it seems institutes in the advanced economies have lost their original fervour. So, the merger seems the most feasible solution for economics.
PS: And to Koopman people in their corner, this note provokes augmentation for transients.
Think of the conceptual power of Black-Scholes-Merton equation. Stay with the PDE, don’t rush to the solution. It seems criminal that students of financial economics should be kept away from engineering students - BSM captures the richness of the heat equation. Yet let me tear myself. It seems criminal that graduate education is not presented as a subject of physics. If anyone doubts interdisciplinarity, peer into BSM. Now, as we solve the PDE, quadratic variation emerges. To talk public policy without quadratic variation is just empty. And we are back to interdisciplinarity. We might with a department of engineering and economics.
