i read some of the books which show maximum acceptable value is 15 for modification indices but some study shows its value is 10. some tell me whats the exact value of modification indices
Relevant answer
Answer
I'm 4 years late in answering this - the exact minimum for a MI is 3.84 which is the critical value for chi-square for 1 degree of freedom. So relaxing a parameter with a value of greater than 3.84 should 'significantly' improve your model in terms of reducing the chi-square- whether that means the model fits the data, or that the model makes sense, of the parameter in question should have been added are all other questions that should be thought about.

I want to design a micro-strip line for a mm wave application. I am using formula mentioned in David Pozar`s Micro-wave Engineering book, Is there any other method or analysis I can use to design for the frequency range suitable for my application. Thank-you in Advance
Relevant answer
Answer
Hello Khalid Shaikh, Pozars book is a good start. There are multiple books written on the topic, that go into more detail and only focus on MS and coplanar designs. At these frequencies you have to take the surface roughness of your materials into account. Due to the skin effect the electromagnetic waves will hardly penetrate the conductor. I would also recommend that you try to simulate your MS line in a suited EM-simulator. The best suited simulator for this case should be SONNET, but I am sure you can also achieve acceptable results with AWR Microwave Office or Ansys HFSS. Please keep in mind, that not everything that can be simulated can also be manufactured. You should check the manufacturing parameters of your PCB supplier and orient your design according to these requirements. You should also think about how to measure your line once it has been produced. You probably need to create probe pads or use special RF connectors ( I think 1mm is required at these frequencies). Best regards

I reached out to John W Creswell. He referred me to his book "Please go to my book, "A Concise Introduction to Mixed Methods Research" (SAGE, 2015) to see the mixed methods designs possible. Thanks. John W Creswell".

Mixed methods research consists of integrating the results from qualitative and quantitative research. A systematic review might serve as the background for such research, but it is not a method and thus not a formal part of a mixed methods research project.

Is there any way I can convert my PhD dissertation into a book? How do I go about it? Which best publishing house can publish my dissertation?
Relevant answer
Answer
Yes, you can convert your dissertation into a book.
How to go about it include:
1. Identify your audience. This will strongly influence how you organize and write your book, differentiating it from your dissertation; because, the purpose of a dissertation is to show that you're knowledgeable about your field of study and have made a significant contribution to it. While the purpose of a book is to serve a need for the reader.
2. Identify competing books, so as to determine how your book will fill a gap for the audience.
3. Create an outline for your book as you begin with the major topic for each chapter and thinking about how the overall theme will progress through the entire book.
4. Write a sample chapter.
5. Identify appropriate publisher and learn the publishing landscape in your field by:
i. Getting a sense of how editors will review your book.
ii. Review your bookshelf and bibliography.
iii. Close read press website to ensure your target presses publish books like yours.
iv. Reach out to authors who have recently published books at your target press and learn valuable information about their timeline and experiences.
v. Open up informal or formal conversations with editors about your project.

Option #1: you receive an invitation to present your book idea, like I did
"Springer’s comprehensive range of book series offers in-depth research across a variety of disciplines, providing key insights and fresh perspectives on topics of interest and importance to readers. We’re currently seeking proposals for a number of our series in Mathematics, so if you think your research is a good fit don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss your book idea."
Option #2: you suggest your idea yourself following the steps described by the publisher: https://www.springer.com/gp/campaign/chemistry-book-2

In most cases FDMs are used on regular domains. For irregular domains, FEM, FVM, BEM are used. But some books present application of FDM on irregular domains. In that case correction parameters ( α's) are used for step lengths near the boundary domian.
Relevant answer
Answer
I discuss the BEM in four of my books (DiffEq, NumCalc, CFD, and Ptracking), which you can get for free on certain days, as allowed by Amazon. The software is always free. I have attached some examples. The BEM is easy to set up the input files and runs very fast, even for complex domains with several inlets and exits. If you have a problem in mind, I could get it started for you. As this is a boundary problem, my polygon editor (also free) really comes in handy for building the domains.

Are you interested in the application of complex systems to the global history of humankind? I'm working on such a project, and I'm interested in discussions with like-minded people.
I published several articles on that in "The Complex Systems" journal (thecomplexsystems.com). A short overview of my work is in my blog (vtorvich.com) and the description of my book "Subsurface History of Humanity: Direction of History" on Amazon.
Relevant answer
Answer
All classifications are up to people.
Everybody will tell you that the history of humanity started around 5,150 years ago. Of course, not the same wording would be used. The phrase would be like this. The history of mankind is recorded history. In other words, our history began only when humanity invented writing.
The reason is simple and very convincing. The magic word is convenience. It is much easier to work with historical facts and artifacts if you have written records about them. It is hard to work with only archeological or similar data. The history with existed written records is a comfort zone for everybody. Any choice of the beginning of the history of humankind as a date before first writing will throw researchers and the public out of this comfort zone.
When did the Agricultural Revolution happen? Well, it began many thousands of years before writing was invented. If the history of mankind began in 3150 BC, then that revolution is thrown from the history of humanity into prehistory.
I consider humankind's history, as the one, which started in 42000 BC. Why exactly at this date?
You could read it in my book - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08WZCVDTD.

We will also include all your published papers into this book in a way that a common man can understand it. And then, we will publish your book with our publishing group. Before, publication, we will send the draft to you for scientific accuracy, once you approve our draft, we then proceed for publication. You will get all the rights of your book, and all the sales generated from your book will be credited to you.
Your book will then be listed on famous websites like Amazon, eBay, Good Reads, and many other popular book websites. As a result, you will get good credit and people will recognize your hard work and your scientific contributions.
Last but not least, after the publication of your book, it will be published in Google News, Yahoo, and other major news channels.
What more can you ask for?
All we need is your book writing contract, and you will get all the rights for your book.
I will be waiting to hear from you.

I study and research about anxiety disorders in children in Iran and I sometimes face questions like this and unfortunately I could not find article or book to answer that.
Relevant answer
Answer
"COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL TREATMENT FOR CHILDREN WITH ANXIETY". Children learn to handle the bully in their brain; by Jerry Bubrick, PhD; INSTITUTE MENTE INFANTIL (and II):
"Related: Do's (and Don'ts) When Kids Are Anxious
It is also important to help children really understand how anxiety is affecting their lives. In fact, I sometimes map the things a child cannot do because of their fears, like sleeping in their own bed, going to a friend's house, or sharing meals with their own family, and how that makes them feel. . It is important to make children understand how their anxiety works and to gain their trust because the next step, facing their fears, depends on their trust in me.
Exposure therapy slowly and consistently helps a child cope with her fears.
Adopting Robert Frost's observation that "the only way to get over a situation is to get through it," exposure therapy helps a child slowly and consistently cope with his fears so that he can learn to tolerate his anxiety until it subsides, eventually Instead of reacting by seeking comfort, escaping, avoiding, or performing rituals such as hand washing.
How does exposure therapy work?
The first step is to identify your triggers. We design a "hierarchy of fears," a series of escalating challenges, each of which is tolerable, and which together build significant progress. Instead of thinking in terms of black and white (I can't touch a dog or I can't cross a bridge) the children are asked to think in levels of difficulty. We could ask a child with a fear of contamination, for example: “On a scale of 1 to 10, how difficult would it be to touch the door handle with one finger? Knock and open the door?
Related: How Anxiety Leads To Conflictive Behaviors
For a child with a fear of vomiting, we might ask: “How difficult would it be to write the word vomit? If that's a 3, then let's say saying 'I'm going to vomit today' could be a 5. Watching a cartoon of someone vomiting could be rated 7. Watching an actual video of someone vomiting could be a 9. On top the hierarchy would probably be eating something that the child thinks will make him vomit. By rating these various fears, children come to realize that some things are less extreme, and more manageable than they thought.
Then we expose the child to the trigger in its mildest possible way, and we support them until the anxiety subsides. Fear, like any sensation, fades over time, and children gain a sense of mastery as they feel the anxiety diminish.
Intensive treatment
With a child who has severe anxiety, who can barely, for example, leave his room for fear that his parents will die, or who has to wash his hands dozens of times a day to avoid contamination, it can work to work with him several times a week, for several hours per session. We do exposure therapy in the office, and when a child is comfortable enough, we do it outside. For someone with social anxiety, for example, we could go outside wearing funny hats, or walk with a banana tied with a rope. For someone who is afraid of pollution, we could get on the bus together, or shake hands with strangers and then eat potato chips without washing our hands.
Once we have worked with some exhibitions, and the child feels more secure, I assign homework to practice what we did in the sessions at home. We want the kids to really master the exhibits before moving on. And parents are taught to help children thrive by encouraging them to tolerate feelings of anxiety, rather than running to protect them from their anxiety.
Treatment for mild to moderate levels of severity usually requires 8 to 12 sessions, and some children make more progress if they are also taking medications to reduce their anxiety, which can facilitate their involvement in therapy. It is important to understand that exposure therapy is hard work, for children and parents. But as the fear subsides, the children go back to doing the things they love to do, and the family welcomes back a child they feared they had lost, and that is a great reward".

What is the mechanism for an ionic exchange reaction between two ion pairs?
I confirmed that the following reaction can be proceeded in water.
For example,
[Tetrabutylphosphonium][bromide] + [Sodium][p-styrenesulfonate] -> [Tetrabutylphosphonium][p-styrenesulfonate] + [Sodium][bromide]
I cannot understand what makes this reaction possible.
Is this reaction can be interpreted with HSAB theory?
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Kyutae, in aqeous solution you will certainly have an equilibrium between all four ionic components. Normally you can only isolate one product in high yield if it is removed from the equilibrium, e.g. if it forms a precipitate. The synthesis of Tetrabutylphosphonium-p-styrenesulfonate (also known as P4444 SS) has been reported in the following article:
Exploration of using thermally responsive polyionic liquid hydrogels as draw agents in forward osmosis
In this case the product P4444 SS is removed from the equilibrium by extraction with dichloromethane. This is possible because the other reaction product, NaBr, is soluble only in water but insoluble in dichloromethane.

Many scholars are now a days considering making their research available in preprints before publication with journals and/or books. This helps preserve intellectual ownership as well as quickly getting citations of work.
Citing preprints seem to be different than citing journal articles/books. So, what is the appropriate way to cite preprints?
Relevant answer

For each publication in J . or reposotories there must be a specific syntax of Citation - For eg DATTA, JAYDIP (2020): COVID19- Remdesivir Intermediate: An Approach to Molecular Bonding .. figshare. Preprint. https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.12533348.v4 ( By DataCite ) . Hello,
I'm trying to estimate a minimum sample size and I'm reading Kline's book on structural equation modeling, where he references the N:Q ratio:
"In ML estimation, Jackson (2003) suggested that researchers think about minimum sample size in terms of the ratio of cases (N) to the number of model parameters that require statistical estimates (q)"
I have my model set up in AMOS and it shows the parameters for the weights, covariances, and variances. I understand where they come from, but I'm confused about how to use the N:Q rule because Kline says that its the parameters that require statistical estimates. Does this mean the parameters that I am interested in for my prediction (i.e. the weights and/or covariances) ? Or does it mean the parameters that the entire statistical model requires to make an estimate of fit (i.e. weights + covariances + variances)?
Thanks so much in advance!
Relevant answer
Answer
David L Morgan It is not generally true (in fact, rather rarely) that the residual variances in path, CFA, or SEM models are functions of (determined by) other model parameters. Residual variances are almost always free (independent) model parameters.
As an aside, when parameters (including residual variances) are set equal to other parameters, they count only as one free parameter.

Whenever we start a new research we need first to do literature review in order to both get acquainted with the context and the concepts related to our research and also to situate our research within the existing knowledge.
  • The problem is that in order to find relevant literature you need to express what you are looking for into meaningful search terms and the more efficient and robust you make your "search string" (aka the keywords you use) the better you will express your information need and find relevant reference. E.g. If someone is looking for "text classification for categorising books" is better to word it as "book genre identification".
Do you got any techniques that you developed through the years on how do find the perfect wording for your initial literature search? Myself, for example, I try to find first an initial paper that is relevant and the browse through its cited papers to see if there is any paper that describes in their title in a better way what I am looking for.

Dear Devi, this question is certainly of general interest to many RG members. personally I would not see this offer to buy a certificate under the aspect of ethics. It's just a business model of fake / predatory companies who try to take off money from naive scientists. I agree with David Eugene Booth in that this practice reminds one of the popular Who is Who volumes. They first offer some sort of free membership, but then they try to sell expensive books, plaques and certificates. My personal advice would be to completely stay away from such mafia-like offers and invitations. Beautiful certificates issued by fake companies are of absolutely no help in your career. Potential employers and university officials will only laugh at them.

Data Science has evolved as a new branch of knowledge. Some people define it as applied statistics whereas others define it as an umbrella under which several existing interrelated branches have been grouped together. Being a recent topic, we may find edited volumes and obviously several papers. But, do we have standard fundamental books on this topic. This is essential as when we frame a syllabus, it is highly mandatory to provide some books as text, which cover most of the contents of the syllabus.

Hello!
I'm making a series of numerical simulations which the response is a curve of a determined variable along time, for exemple, y(t).
Basically, I have 5 parameters of control which I need to vary to obtain an response on my response variable. For exemple, I need to test three different particle diamenter and three different Reynolds number and obtain 6 curves to my response variable, which is a curve in the form y(t), which t is time.
I know that experiment design can help me with it. But I do not understand how can I correlate a curve as a function of time, and not an specific value. Most book exemples I was able to find correlate an specific value and I was not able to extrapolate from that.
Not sure if I was clear enough, but can someone help me with that?
Relevant answer
Answer
Maybe you can alernatively consider the recursive least squares algorithm (RLS). RLS is the recursive application of the well-known least squares (LS) regression algorithm, so that each new data point is taken in account to modify (correct) a previous estimate of the parameters from some linear (or linearized) correlation thought to model the observed system. The method allows for the dynamical application of LS to time series acquired in real-time. As with LS, there may be several correlation equations with the corresponding set of dependent (observed) variables. For the recursive least squares algorithm with forgetting factor (RLS-FF), adquired data is weighted according to its age, with increased weight given to the most recent data.
Application example ― While investigating adaptive control and energetic optimization of aerobic fermenters, I have applied the RLS-FF algorithm to estimate the parameters from the KLa correlation, used to predict the O2 gas-liquid mass-transfer, while giving increased weight to most recent data. Estimates were improved by imposing sinusoidal disturbance to air flow and agitation speed (manipulated variables). The proposed (adaptive) control algorithm compared favourably with PID. Simulations assessed the effect of numerically generated white Gaussian noise (2-sigma truncated) and of first order delay. This investigation was reported at (MSc Thesis):

Let me first say this is an guide to answers and not a thesis.
However, there is minimal Zoroastrian influence on Judaism. There is more influence from African/Egyptian Theology on the revealed religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. I base this on Abram coming to Jerusalem and finding the the priest of the Most High God already well established in Jerusalem. Mohammed came from Midian where prior to the conquest of Persia was long ruled by Egypt (see Moses's wife and father in law religion). African/Egyptian Theology is not polytheistic as many believe. It is Henotheism believing there is one god manifested/revealed to man in other beings/gods but in all is only one god. “I became the becoming of those who became after my becoming, for numerous are the desires coming out of my mouth (spoken word to create), …After being only one God, it is three that I became for myself and for Shu (air/spirit), certainly, and Tefnut (water) came out of the Nun (dark empty void) where they were: they brought my eye after them.” This is individuality or one to give plurality in more than one (specifically 3 in trinity). Elohim is God in plurality and individuality. This is very evident in Genesis 1:1-3. So there goes that Zoroastrian influence theory.
Also, the Medes (Zoroastrian religion) were not influential on Judaism until the conquering of Judah, According to the Holy Bible, God prophesied of Cyrus The Great. It would be the other way around if Zoroastrian prophesied of Cyrus. If so, they would not have not lost power the the Persians knowing that Cyrus was coming.
There may be some influence on Christianity, and some on Islam. This was necessitated by the influence of Hellenism by the Greeks and then the Romans who ruled over nations. As a religious rebellion to Hellenistic gods, Zoroastrian, Christianity, and Islam had a common religious enemy.
Finally, just because religions have social and moral goodwill to mankind does not mean one influenced the other. Goodwill (Agape/charitable love) to mankind comes for the spirit of God that was given to all men and women before any of man's religions were created or established. Religion is man's outward appearance to man that he has a relationship with God. Faith is man's inward appearance to God that he has a relationship with God. God moves man to faith in God. Man moves Man to religion with man.
